{"id":556,"date":"2015-10-08T21:39:23","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T21:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.wordpress.com\/?p=556"},"modified":"2016-06-09T15:13:28","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T19:13:28","slug":"how-to-skip-a-stone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/experimentalstudio.ca\/outdoorschool\/2015\/10\/08\/how-to-skip-a-stone\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Skip A Stone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/dsc_0456.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-562\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/experimentalstudio.ca\/sart-4660-f15\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/10\/dsc_0456.jpg?resize=660%2C440\" alt=\"DSC_0456\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nLast Friday, Outdoor School\u00a0spent the day at\u00a0Monocliffs where I properly demonstrated how to skip a stone.<\/p>\n<p>Stone skimming, ducks and drakes, or more commonly known as skipping stones is the act of throwing a stone across water in a way that it bounces off the surface multiple times.\u00a0 You want to choose a stone that is flat, skinny and about the size of your palm.\u00a0 The smoother and flatter the stone the better it will skip across water without breaking surface tension.\u00a0 I prefer rocks that are not perfectly smooth, so I&#8217;m able to grip it for a better spin.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/dsc_0446.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-557\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/experimentalstudio.ca\/sart-4660-f15\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/10\/dsc_0446.jpg?resize=660%2C440\" alt=\"DSC_0446\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOnce you have your stone, you want to hold it between your index finger and thumb, placing the edge of the stone against your index finger.\u00a0 Place your thumb on one flat side of the stone and your middle finger on the other.\u00a0 Your thumb should be rested on top and the stone should fit in the crook of your index finger.<\/p>\n<p>Face the water sideways with your non-dominant side closest to the water.\u00a0 Squat down, so the rock is more parallel to the water when you toss it.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll want to slightly angle your rock upwards.\u00a0 The front side of the stone should be tilted at about 20\u00b0.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/dsc_0476.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-559\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/experimentalstudio.ca\/sart-4660-f15\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/10\/dsc_0476.jpg?resize=660%2C440\" alt=\"DSC_0476\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/dsc_0462.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-558\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/experimentalstudio.ca\/sart-4660-f15\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/10\/dsc_0462.jpg?resize=660%2C440\" alt=\"DSC_0462\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSkipping stones may seem simple, but it&#8217;s a beautiful pastime because it connects us to our natural surroundings and often with one another.\u00a0 I think there is something very special about the act of searching the earth for a stone.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/dsc_0469.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-561\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/experimentalstudio.ca\/sart-4660-f15\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/10\/dsc_0469.jpg?resize=660%2C440\" alt=\"DSC_0469\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/10\/dsc_0467.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-560\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/experimentalstudio.ca\/sart-4660-f15\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/10\/dsc_0467.jpg?resize=660%2C440\" alt=\"DSC_0467\" width=\"660\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIt also creates\u00a0the nicest\u00a0sound.<\/p>\n<p>thank you Alison for documentation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Friday, Outdoor School\u00a0spent the day at\u00a0Monocliffs where I properly demonstrated how to skip a stone.
