{"id":1307,"date":"2015-11-25T15:11:15","date_gmt":"2015-11-25T15:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.wordpress.com\/?p=1307"},"modified":"2015-11-25T15:11:15","modified_gmt":"2015-11-25T15:11:15","slug":"celeste-boursier-mougenot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/experimentalstudio.ca\/outdoorschool\/2015\/11\/25\/celeste-boursier-mougenot\/","title":{"rendered":"C\u00e9leste Boursier-Mougenot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1313\" src=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/11\/celeste-boursier-mougenot.jpg?resize=3248%2C2292\" alt=\"celeste-boursier-mougenot\" width=\"3248\" height=\"2292\" \/>A living musical exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will set 70\u00a0zebra finches loose in an aviary, and the only perches are the strings of 14 electric guitars and bass guitars.<\/p>\n<p>When the birds land, they create music that&#8217;s played through amplifiers stationed around the aviary.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_11_0_1_1448463525808_29\">French artist C\u00e9leste Boursier-Mougenot calls it living music, inspired by a thought from his childhood.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Looking through the window, my feeling was that I want to make music from these birds on the wire, and 30 years later I did this,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will be escorted in to the exhibition room 25 at a time\u00a0and asked to walk calmly through the installation. They are\u00a0also part of the musical creation, as the birds react to their presence.<\/p>\n<p>Curator Marie-Eve Beaupr\u00e9 said\u00a0this is a highly unusual undertaking for a museum.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1312\" src=\"https:\/\/guelphoutdoorschool.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/11\/celeste2.jpg?resize=807%2C540\" alt=\"celeste2\" width=\"807\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Every morning, a clean-up crew tidies the room, and the birds get regular visits from a veterinarian to make sure they stay healthy.<\/p>\n<p>This is the 19th time Boursier-Mougenot has created this\u00a0installation.\u00a0It&#8217;s travelled\u00a0to New York, Paris, Milan, and \u00a0it&#8217;s making its Canadian premiere in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>The finches hail from a breeder in Thetford Mines.
