Loser Does the Dishes

Several times in the past I have created my family portrait in the traditional sense using paints and drawing but, I wanted to take this opportunity and create a conceptual portrait of my family. It was tricky because we all are so different but the one thing that brings use together is our love to play games.

I had everyone sit down and I put a timer on of two minutes and told everyone to write down as many games that we played together that they could.

After I got the results I counted how many games we actually have which came to 126. Its funny looking at our answers because a lot of the games were repeated because those were the ones everyone had fond memories of but, the games that weren’t repeated where either because you were the best at that game or the worst.

I really enjoy how much these lists show my families essence as a whole, as well as each others individualism.

  1. – hey there is a spelling error in your title – do you mean Loser Does the Dishes?
    – I like the point of departure in this piece, finding a way to represent your family, and your relationships through the games you play together –
    – but how does this list really give us anything to chew on, or to wonder about?
    – feel it needs more – more colour, more design decisions for fonts and placement – or perhaps images of games, or references to games.
    – and maybe the list is not enough- I wonder which game each family member ruled in? How could you give us more information, especially the quirky, personal, specific details that keep our interest, and makes your family members distinctive?
    – could be just a start to a work – lots more to do with that rich resource of materials/images/props and game pieces and fake money/colours/gestures…
    – a real pleasure having you in class Shannon – I know you had some challenges during the term – I hope you take good care of yourself and to see you again in Experimental! Good work!
