Scrim vail-black rectangle at Whitney museum of American art by Robert Irwin (1977)

Robert Irwin created the installation he named “Scrim veil-Black rectangle-Natural light” in the Whitney Museum of American Art. He takes advantage of the buildings features and uses the natural light coming from the window to create this effect. I like that this piece uses the full space of the room and used the already existing space to create this illusion. It’s an immersive experience for visitors that get to walk into this exhibition room and be immersed in the art work.

Somewhere in between almost right and not quite (with orange) by John Baldessari at Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin (2004-2005)

John Baldessari is known for combining painting, photography and text in many of his art pieces. The contrast between the black and white photographs and the colourful paint brings emphasis on the division between the conventional art style and the conceptual art style. The title “Somewhere in between almost right and not quite” perfectly describes the essence of this piece. ‘Almost right’ is talking about the conventional art style with photographs and the ‘not quite’ is referring to the colourful paint places over the photographs to turn it more into a conceptual art piece.

“I’ve often thought of myself as a frustrated writer,” he explained. “I consider a word and an image of equal weight, and a lot of my work comes out of that kind of thinking.”
